Waste Separation as Part of School Education

In Astana, the national campaign “Taza Qazaqstan” continues, aimed at promoting environmental culture and education. The initiative is being implemented in line with the instruction of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, on introducing a unified standard of environmental education.

As part of the project, eco-boxes for sorting waste into paper, plastic, and glass are being installed in public schools of the capital. The initiative is carried out by “Zhasyl Damu” JSC with the support of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

One of the latest schools to join the project is Gymnasium No. 58 named after Ilyas Zhansugurov, where modern eco-boxes have been installed. They allow students to practice separate waste collection and send recyclables for processing through the automated EcoQolday system. This digital platform connects citizens, waste collection companies, and recyclers.

In addition, a competition has been launched among Astana schools: the institution that collects the largest amount of recyclables through the EcoQolday system will receive valuable prizes.

According to the organizers, the project addresses several key tasks: it fosters environmentally responsible behavior among children, increases knowledge in the field of environmental protection, and helps involve society in the recycling process.

“Care for nature should start from an early age. Eco-boxes are a simple yet effective tool that shows children how even small steps can positively impact the environment,” said Nurzhan Duisebay, Head of the Public Relations Department of “Zhasyl Damu” JSC.

Along with the installation of eco-boxes, eco-lessons and educational activities are being held in schools to promote environmental literacy and conscious attitudes toward nature.
