Green Transformation of Regions: Zhasyl Damu JSC Presented Support Measures for Waste Management System at a UNDP Seminar in Astana

Today, a working seminar dedicated to improving the municipal solid waste management system and introducing extended producer responsibility (EPR) instruments in the Abai and Ulytau regions was held. The event was organized with the support of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Kazakhstan and brought together representatives of Zhasyl Damu JSC, regional akimats, experts, and industry specialists.

During the seminar, participants discussed the current state of the waste management system in the two regions, as well as the results of analytical studies and field missions conducted by UNDP national consultants. Particular attention was paid to practical mechanisms for developing waste management infrastructure, improving the efficiency of secondary raw materials recycling, and introducing modern environmental policy instruments.

Zhasyl Damu JSC presented a comprehensive set of support measures within the framework of the activities of the EPR Operator in Kazakhstan. The presentation highlighted the key functions of the operator, existing mechanisms for stimulating recycling, and successful practices in implementing environmental initiatives. A separate session focused on cooperation with regional authorities and discussed practical solutions for developing recycling infrastructure and improving the environmental awareness of the population.

“Developing a modern waste management system is impossible without close cooperation between the state, business, and regional authorities. Zhasyl Damu JSC consistently implements extended producer responsibility instruments aimed at stimulating recycling and developing environmental infrastructure. Platforms such as today’s seminar allow us to develop practical solutions for the sustainable development of regions,” noted Nurzhan Kabdoldanov, Deputy Chairman of the Management Board of Zhasyl Damu JSC.

In addition, during the seminar he answered all questions from participants and provided explanations on the practical aspects of implementing EPR instruments and developing regional recycling infrastructure.

Such events contribute to strengthening cooperation between national institutions and regional authorities, as well as to the formation of an effective waste management system that complies with the principles of sustainable development and the green economy.
