In Kazakhstan, methane emissions have decreased by almost 41% over the past 30 years

According to the National Greenhouse Gas Inventory Report of the Republic of Kazakhstan for 1990–2023, prepared by JSC “Zhasyl Damu”, the volume of methane (CH₄) emissions in the country has decreased by almost 41% compared to 1990 levels.

Methane remains one of the most significant greenhouse gases, with a global warming potential estimated to be 28–34 times higher than that of carbon dioxide (CO₂). Kazakhstan demonstrates a steady trend toward reducing methane emissions.

JSC “Zhasyl Damu” continues to implement initiatives aimed at improving the efficiency of monitoring and reporting systems, as well as supporting Kazakhstan’s transition to a green economy.
